Replacing the King Pin on Tekno

Aussie Curtainsider & Refrigerated Trailers

PLEASE NOTE: The king pin does not ‘NEED’ to be changed and has purely been supplied to give the modeler/collector the option to modify the trailer if desired.

Please also be aware that modifying the model is done so at the risk of the modeler/collector and Coastal Hobbies accepts no responsibility for any damage caused.  Modifications may void your warranty.

Quarry Diecast Models has supplied one alternate king pin, as pictured, with each trailer sold.

The following information is provided as a guide to how you may like to change the pin.  This is how I did it but is by no means the only method.  I have no doubt that more experienced modelers will have better ideas and use different methods than I have.

  1. Cut a piece of cardboard approximately 60 x 25mm.
  2. Cut a slit down the centre, roughly ½ the length of the cardboard.
  3. Slide the cardboard around the existing kingpin.
This is to protect the model from being scratched by tools.

  1. Grip the existing king pin with a pair of vice grips or pliers.
  2. Gently pull the kingpin from the model.
A little force is required but not a great deal.
The pin is a press fit and has not been glued into place.

  1. Drill a 1.5mm hole in front of the hole where the original pin was.
By leaving the original hole as it is, you will always have the option of swapping the pins back again at a later date if you desire to do so.

  1. Gently tap the new pin into place.
It is a firm fit and if carefully taped/pressed into place, no glue is required.
Again, this leaves you the option of easily swapping the pins back again at a later date if desired.

  1. The job is complete

  1. The Trailer will now lock into the 5th wheel on Iconic Replicas & Drake Collectibles prime movers.
